Strong Beginnings, Terry Fox & Thanksgiving happenings....

Strong beginnings:

This assessment took place on Sept. 21, 24 and 25th. Teachers are currently inputting the levels of literacy (reading literacy and mathematical literacy) into databases to help drive our preparation for individual students and classes as a whole. Please feel free to contact your child's ELA teacher for information on the reading and comprehension literacy testing (Fontas & Pinnell) or your child's math teacher to find out about the three measured areas in our Strong Beginnings (Number Sense, Algebra & Geometry, Number Computations).

Terry Fox Campaign:
Mr. Oberholtzer is spearheading the Terry Fox campaign again this year.  We are collecting donations by homeroom.  Please feel free to contact Mr. Oberholtzer to see how you can help with donating to our campaign for cancer research at 204-269-6210 (ext. 3397).

Welcome Back to School!

Welcome all students of Acadia!  I am especially pleased to teach 8-2, 9-2 and 9-7 this year!

I hope you are enjoying getting back to school;  I am looking forward to learning about math and science with you.

Make sure to read your September newsletter!

Important  dates this month are:

Fri., Sept. 24th        Strong Beginnings.   No official classes.
Mon., Sept. 27th     Strong Beginnings.   No official classes.

All students will have a 1 hour appointment on one of those days to be assessed one-on-one for their literacy levels.  Students will also get the results from their mathematics assessments that they did in class earlier in September.  This data helps us prepare for a great year of moving each student onwards and upwards with their learning.

Tues., Sept. 28th      Grade 7 day.  Only grade 7's come to school.

On this day, some grade 8's and 9's may have Strong Beginning appointments due to the fact that we have over 600 students this year!  Some grade 8 and grade 9 students may also be volunteering to serve lunch for grade 7 day as well.

We will be having a Terry Fox event for cancer awareness at the end of September, more details to be posted here soon.

A reminder to all math students in grade 8 and 9, math assignments will start the week of Sept. 10th.  Make sure when you access your Pearson textbook online, that you click on the "pdf book" version as indicated with the red arrow in the diagram above.
