May 2nd - 9-2 and 9-4 Manitoba Electrical Museum Field trip
Thanks to all the volunteer (Hydro-Ex) guides at the museum at Harrow and Pembina for helping 9-2 and 9-4 learn about electricity and its development here in Manitoba.
Students came away with a variety of new ideas and wonder about how much more amazing it is to have electricity just an electrical outlet in the wall away!
Next Thursday, May 10th, students will visit IMAX to see 2 films to prepare us for our last unit in grade 9 science after Electricity......Space and the Cosmos:

3 new things that i learned were that when you try to transport AC currents you lose the power because of the tension on the lines, Van de Graaff generators don't work when it is humid and Limestone is the biggest generator in Winnipeg.
ReplyDeleteI already knew that Manitoba's electrical sources are over 95% hydro.
Yes I would recommend this field trip because even though I had already been there I learned some knew information and they have a really good collection of old electrical products like bulbs and appliances.
3 new things I learned are van der graph generators do not work when humid, Jenpeg is one of the biggest generators in MB, and 50,000 farms got eletricity for the first time in MB in 1946.
ReplyDeleteSomething I already knew about electricity is Thomas Edison invented the first lightbulb.
Yes I would recommend this field trip again because it was a fun way to learn about electricity and there were hands on activities involved.
:)
1. -I learned how electricity was used first in Winnipeg.
ReplyDelete- How turbines work.
- three things needed to make elctrcicity are magnets, coils, and movement.
2. the electrons move to the protons.
3. Yes because it was great!
JD 9-2
ReplyDelete1.) The three things I learned during the trip to the Electrical Museum are:
- Limestone is the biggest genereator in Manitoba.
- The first use for electricity here in Manitoba were for streetlights and street cars.
- Thomas Edison, was not the inventor of the lightbulb, in fact, the inventor was Canadian!
2.) Most of elctricity is produced from water (hydro) in Manitoba (over 95%).
3.) I would higly recomend this trip again. I learned so much things that i did not know and i also enjoyed my time there.
The 3 things I learned about electricity are: Thomas Edison bought the invention of the light bulb off of Henry Woodward and "invented" the proper light bulb. Over 95% of the electricity in Manitoba is generated from hydroelectric stations. Also there are 6 generating stations are currently built on the Winnipeg River and still produce electricity.
ReplyDeleteSomething I already knew about electricity is that there are different types, for example: static electricity.
I would definitely recommend this field trip again because the tour-guides are awesome, the artifacts were interesting, and in the end we received a cool prize. Also the pamphlets we filled out were educational.
The three things i learned is that 98 of electricity in MB is hydro, 50000 farms got powere for the first time in 1946 and that three thing you need to make electricity are magnets coils and movement.
ReplyDeleteI allready new that thomas edison made the first lightbulb.
I reccomend this field trip again because there is so much information to learn about electricity im MB and inventions made around the world.
1) Well, I learned that Van de Graff generators don't work too well when it is humid. I also learned that Henry Woodward was a Canadian who first held the patent for the lightbulb. I also learned that electricity was forst used in Manitoba for Street lights and Street cars.
ReplyDelete2) I already knew that over 95% of power made in manitoba is hydroelectric.

1. I learned how dam is important.
ReplyDelete2. We're getting electricty from dam 98%.
3. 50,000 farms was spilled with electricty in 3years.
2) I already knew what is the electricty.
3) yes, because I got so many amazing inpormantion about electricty and I saw so many thing, like a train, old dishwashere and movie about how electricity works.
1)What are 3 things you learned about electricity today?-I learned that Thomas Edison didn’t actually create the light bulb. He bought the invention off of Henry Woodward. Woodward could only get the filament to stay lit for a very little amount of time, so Edison bought the invention, and created a new version of the Light bulb. We now use Edison’s development of the light bulb now.
ReplyDeleteI also learned that there are 14 power dams in Manitoba. Only 3 of them are produce a lot or electricity from the amount of water there is; the turbine strength also determines how much electricity is created.
I also learned that Henry Woodward was a Canadian.
2)What is something you already knew about electricity?
I already knew that you shouldn’t touch electricity. The voltage can cause your heart to skip a beat, or something related to that. This can cause death or serious damage to you.
3)Would you recommend this field trip again? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend this field trip again, because it was very interesting. I learned a lot, and -I liked the fact that we found out that the Van de Graaffe Generator doesn’t really work when there is a lot of humidity in the air.
I learned that the first person who invented light bulb is not Thomas Edison, Henry Woodward.6 generating stations are still produce electricity on the WInnipeg river. And there is a lot of shape of light bulb.
ReplyDeleteElectricity was first used for street lights and street cars.
