Homework is not for marks - it is not an ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING. Rather, it is the supported practice I would like students to complete in class whenever possible, when it is not completed in class, I then would like the support of parents/guardians at home to ensure that the students TRY each question in the assignment and parents/guardians can have their students write a note about what was tough about a question they couldn't get or what they weren't sure about in a particular question - rather than have students bringing back little to nothing completed after 4 days. The students will be assessed on the UNIT TEST coming up next week, so I would like for them to have as much practice before then as possible.
Here is a link to the worksheet we did in class (#1 & #2 are review for the test and #3, 4, 5 are enrichment type questions to challenge learners who already get the basics of ratio, rate and proportion). Thanks Mr. Kellough for sharing this!
We have finished assignments on percents on pages:
pg. 246#4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 14
pg. 252 #3, 4 and then a worksheet on Ratios
pg. 259-261 # 1 - 12 inclusive problem solving and then a hand-in assignment on problem solving
We were assigned ratio questions in the textbook to COMPLETE by Wednesday, Feb. 16th:
Text 5.5 page 266 4, 5, 6 (out loud)
page 268 #14, 17 (on loose-leaf)
Text 5.6 page 274-275 #5 - 17 (we did #17 a) and d) together on Feb. 14th in class)
Text 5.7 page 284 - 285 #4 - 16

Students should be working on this in class with the textbooks and at home for 5 -10 minutes a night with their textbook online. Please see the top right corner of the blog for the link to the website and students need the log in username and password to get into the text.
Should we have computer lab time, please follow the following instructions:
Go to THE LEARNING EQUATION 8, click on NUMBER OPERATIONS, scroll down and complete the following 3 sections:
Ratio and Percent Problems
Combining Percents
Equivalent Rates
Fill out the sections and check them off on your THE LEARNING EQUATION sheet!
If you finish those sections, you may login to Discovery Education and watch the MATH VIDEO I assigned for you!
Floating and sinking was good but weight vs density was not as good.
