Percents - Text assignment Page 239 #1, 3, 4, 7, 9, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21 was assigned on Thursday, January 13th.
Percent problem solving (using the DOWNLOAD BAR method) assignment given on Wednesday, January 12th was: Page 246 # 4, 5, 6, 7(done together) 9, 10, 11, 14 Page 252 #3, 4
Lastly, Page 259-261 #1-12 were assigned the week of January 31 to Feb. 4th. A homework check was conducted and students that DO NOT complete homework (3 strikes!) will get a phone call home to remind their families of their responsibility as a student.

Grade 9 Math January 17-Feb 9th
POLYNOMIALS! Unit 5 in the textbook.
The Unit TEST on POLYNOMIALS will be Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 8th, and 9th.
Make sure to review your vocabulary and definitions sheets on a regular basis!
Have you re-checked your polynomials word splash recently to write down what you know about new vocabulary?

We brainstormed as a class and wrote down our ideas about WHAT LIKE TERMS ARE....do you have your notes?
If you want to practice combining like terms (adding) try using the garden perimeter sheets again (print off the last 2 pages only).

5.4 Subtracting Polynomials Pg 234/235#5,6,7,8, 10, 12, 13, 15

We used algebra manipulatives to add and subract polynomials on the first try, here is the activity we did to start adding and subtracting.
We had a mastery assessment on January 17th, in which students practiced collecting like terms, adding and subtracting. They kept working on it until they got 100%! Here is a copy of it if you need to try it again (thanks Mr. Bannatyne!).
Quiz #2 on adding, subtracting and substitution/evaluation is on Tuesday, January 25.
Multiplying and Dividing assignments were posted in class.

8-4 THE LEARNING EQUATION Thursday, January 6th.....follow the directions in the picture below.
Please make sure that you bring your signed math progress slip back to Mrs. Snyder in the next week. This was at the bottom of the Unit Test marks were sent home the last week in December. There was a space at the bottom requiring parent signature. Please ask your student to show you this letter (here is a blank copy). The unit test marks will be markers of where their TERM 1 mark will be when reports are sent home in early February.
*we finished MULTIPLYING & DIVIDING FRACTIONS (Chapter 3 in our textbook) and are moving on to PERCENT, RATIO, RATE & PROPORTION (Chapter 5 in our textbook).
*We did the INVESTIGATE activity on page 234 in your textbook on January 6 & 7th. You should have handed in your work to Mr. Opchinsky.
